Excuse to Wear the Leatherneck Tartan

While I was not a marine, I did spend four years in the U.S. Army. I was active duty from November of 1990 to November of 1994. Instead of going to Saudi Arabia, I was stationed in the Reception Station at Fort Knox. We inprocessed new recruits into basic training.

I do miss the camraderie and sense of tradition and honor that I felt while in the Armed forces. It is rare to find that in the civilian workplace.

I do like the Marine tartan. I was wondering if there is a U.S. Army tartan? Just for the Army in general, instead of specific branches (i.e. artillery, cav, and so on).

As for my service, you are welcome. It is nice to hear thanks from others. I'll wager that that is something most veterans hear few and far between. Noone had ever thanked me before two years ago.

Yep, it depends if you want it in PV or in wool. I have a PV on order from Rocky - the jonesing continues...

And Matthew, remember how nice it feels to be thanked the next time you see a serviceman or servicewoman "out and about." I was thanked by a WWII veteran early in my service during the Cold War - it made an impression on me, and I try to continue to follow his example.

Every once in a while I'll be running around in my ACUs and I'll get the older guys thanking me for my service.

It's a little humbling when the guy thanking you is wearing a hat that says "The Chosin Few."

I may have to investigate that US Army Tartan. If I am going to wear a Tartan, it'd be nice to wear one that I have some right to wear.
