We need high wind refrigeration to stay cool in Arizona...
Silly, I was swishing my swisher to show the kilt swish...

I, too, enjoyed your quote Ron
Graham, is it not possible to get the
pleats sewn down but another kilt maker?!?
Additional expense...
The tartan has lovely earthy tones.
Thanks for posting the pictures and your review.

Graham, I think the kilt looks good on you.
I don't like the lack of a fell but I think it can be fixed pretty easily though. You need to have someone stitch in the fell but any seamstress (or seamster) can do that if you show them what you mean (maybe show them another kilt).
Also you can increase the comfort level of this kilt by quite a bit by installing a satin lining. That's no great feat either, I do it all the time. I've made a lot of kilts from canvas to fairly open weave wool and the small bit of satin makes them feel luxurious. It doesn't affect the look of the kilt at all.
It's too nice a tartan not to be happy with it. It's worth the work.
It don't mean a thing, if you aint got that swing!!

When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.
The kilt is lovely. Really. Well, the tartan is lovely.
It can be touched up somehow, I am sure.

Do you really want to pay for a kilt thats not sewn down and tapered properly. Aren't these the things that we expect out of most kilts these days. As nice as the kilt may be to some do you have to buy a kilt and have it altered to get what you want. You should get what they say your getting. Waistband, sewn down pleats etc.
These things are standard on most kilts and should be.

Earthy & rustic are the exact, proper words to describe the tartan. I for one do like that tartan. Perhaps you could, yourself, or have someone sew down the pleats. You may find that you enjoy the klt more. Overall It looks mighty fine devoid of flashyness. I think added buckles might detract from the overall look.

Anyway, it's not due to the "missing" lower strap, as normal kilts without this feature lay perfectly fine at the hip -- in fact many comment that they lay better without the third strap pulling across the front apron.
I'm going to agree with Mr. Newsome, here.
My best/favorite kilt is the one I got from Celtic Craft Centre, and it does not have the lower right-hand strap - just the ones on the waistband.
The "ballooning" you mention is what several kiltmakers call "kicking," and it's generally caused by not sewing down the fell, or failing to tailor the left-side apron pleat.

Thanks Jim for the advice, I agree with you and will try to find someone to do the job.
