I'm not a massive fan of white hose and have several pairs of coloured hose which I wear according to the tartan of the kilt I have on.

For example today I wore a sage colour hose with my Brithwe Dewi Sant (St David's Tartan) at the Cardiff parade and it went fine with a pc and ghillie brogues. Pictures will follow in due course as I know Derek took some!

If we wear white because it's expected we simply perpetuate the myth that it's the correct hose for formal wear. You could make the argument that black and white hose will go with just about anything and of course it does, but do try a little more imagination and adventure too!

White hose seem too much like white socks to me, which means they should be worn with "go-fasters" and PT gear. A quirk of my own, I'll admit (and freely!). Oatmeal, lovat or bottle green, sometimes black . . . all depends on the outfit and the occasion.

Unfortunately, I only have experience with white hose at this time, which I've worn both formally and informally. I ordered some bottle green hose quite some time ago and am still waiting on those to come in (jonesing). I also plan on getting some black ones at some point. I don't know that it really matters what color of hose that you wear formally or informally, as long as they match or at least coordinate with your kilt colors (tartan or otherwise).

I wear black for semi formal occasions with red flashes and for everyday casual use, black with red cuffs. Rugby socks to be exact. They're inexpensive and look good. In fact I just ordered a few new pair from here. www.ballsout.com Check them out.

Actually these look pretty good. I didn't know you could get rugby socks without the stripes (or other logo things).
    How's the length?
It don't mean a thing, if you aint got that swing!!
