    Welsh - March 1st

    Okay,
I've got Welsh in me too. (someone said Irish, but that's just cause of me temper) So answer a dumb American this, what can you do to find out about Welsh tartan's? Are they more district types or are the clan/family?

    Thanks in Advance,
    Chaplain Harris

Welsh tartans are of fairly recent origin, even the St David's wasn't designed until the late 1970s.

The trend so far has been for family tartans rather than district ones though no doubt they will come in time. To date the only district one is County of Powys that I know of.

You can see the current range of tartans at http://welshtartans.bpweb.net/page.h...7bd1e5efe5215e

I should point out that the pages that Matt wrote about are now out of date as the company changed their web page about 3 months ago.

The earlier site had problems of a technical nature which needed resolving besides some of the information they contained and a new web designer and host were utilised.

Seeing all the cilts and Welsh regalia yesterday shows that no matter how recent the tradition, it's now growing at an exponential rate!

Try connexion to http://welshstore.com/. Cilts, in Welsh, are available for some family names.

I agree with Trefor .. it does'nt matter how recent it is, but Cilts here in Wales are really taking off big time. Saw one other guy in a Cilt yesterday, down the town, coming out of a major dept store as it happened. Guy in his 20's. He was dressed casual .. also had a very nice girlfriend with him
