    My brother wears a dark green PC with black lapels with his MacIntosh clan tartan and colour-coordinated diced hose, and it looks great. The dark green is also of military importance in this area, as it was the colour worn by Butler's Rangers in contrast to the local regiments of foot who wore scarlet.

    While black is the generally accepted color for formal jackets, it is not an absolute. Many of the US military's formal jackets are a navy blue color.

    It you went to an event where everyone else was wearing black, you would stand out. But then the kilt makes you stand out anyway.
