Its here!!! *pic heavy*
well, my long wait is over, I finally was able to get a real kilt. I ordered it Thursday and it arrived today.
it is a Stillwater Irish National Tartan, (thought it would be appropriate with st. pattys and my last name being Ryan...)
it is from their economy line, and I wonder what their standards look like. I love this kilt!!!!
Sorry also for the coat, I think I am going to modify it into a kilt jacket, but I haven't ventured that far yet.
I am also using this post as a way to reveal my "poor man's sporran"
I will post more pictures of it later, but it is all I have in the way of a sporran.
I followed the patterns needed but instead of leather for the pouch portion I used a heavy cotton canvis like material. I am really happy with the way it turned out. and it only cost me a combined total of like 30 cents and 3 hours of labor. like I said close ups of it to come.
I am really excited, its my first non costume kilt. how ever, I am waiting until friday the 16th to reveal it to my school, that date seems the most appropriate to show my craziness off.

Congratulations on your first kilt. I just recieved my first kilt on Friday. It is also a Stillwater Economy Irish National Tartan. I have tried it on and like it so far. I am waiting for my sporran, and belt before I post any pics.
I am already looking at two other kilts. One is in the U.S. Army Tartan, and the other is the Tartan for my family name of Greene.
Good job on making your own sporran.

that is an excellent looking kilt! Time to show it off to the world!
beware, I hear that "new kilt smell" has aphrodesiac-like properties!
(and yes, calf-length hose are definitly a must)

Looking good CWR89. Congrats on the kilt. That's the big hurdle. The accessories will come in good time.

Well, I am planning on getting some longer hose in the next few days. I have a pair that work, however they are my boyscout socks so, they are olive drab and red.
and as for the shoes, I am working on finding some longer laces. those are my shoes from marching band. (yes, I am a band nerd as well. and yet unfortunately a brass player not pipes.)
as for the belt, I am currently working on a 3 inch wide one with this: http://budk.com/product.asp_Q_pn_E_G455OP for the buckle. I have one that is 2 1/2 in but it just isn't the greatest quality, and I don't want a poorly closed ring to snag.
I am really happy with it, and I think that it is mostly because it fits perfectly. boy am I glad I read all I could find about them here before ordering.

Wonderful! You'll be the envy of everyone on St. Patrick's Day (aka Heaven on Earth). If you lost the jacket and wore a rugby shirt or something like that, you'd look great....right after you buy some full-lenght hose. Don't worry, they're not the expensive. My first pair of "kilt hose" were simply baseball socks. I know what it's like to be on a budget.

I have it all planned out actually, I have a black and green Guinness T-shirt to wear with it.
