You know, on a hot day down here in Atlanta, that might just be 'refreshing' "A veteran, whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve, is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life." That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it." anon

That should be interesting, I do a lot of reloading and I would imagine that single and double base powders give off a lot of dust that might sound the alarm. Another good reason to stay away from those paranoid ones at the airports.

Yep, I've had to have hand luggage screened with the "explosives pads" for the same reason - made me segregate my luggage more completely. Range bags no longer go on the plane!

Any theoretical exposure should surely be treated as accidental and from what others have written there is enough time to take preventive action. As I already have to fly sans pin and sgean I'm damned if I'm going to compromise for the few seconds it would take to pass through. I'm prepared to take the risk!

These machines might currently be limited to some US airports as I haven't encountered them in Europe but then again things have a habit of spreading - for the first time ever in Europe I had to take my shoes off and pass them through the scanner at Edinburgh Airport a couple of weeks ago.

There is already a machine capable of scanning liquids but I don't expect they will rush to install those...

Like Trefor, I have not experienced these machines, nor even heard of them before! They certainly did not have them at Los Angeles (LAX) airport when I flew into, and two weeks later out of, it last October.
And ....... it will take more than a puffer machine for me to stop going regimental. If that machine causes exposure (indecent or otherwise), then the responsibility lies with that machine, or its operator, not with me!

I can't go through the airport without incident, so for me a little flash to the operator of a puffer machine would not be much of a problem I almost have to ride the Xray machine anyway.
I may not be explosive but machines burp pink magic smoke if used around me.

There was a web-cartoonist with a distinct streak of mischief who took a leaf-blower to DragonCon last year, hunting kilts. Apparantly, she found many kilts didn't respond to her ministrations...
