    cloves,

Brava! Your honesty and lack of pretense is a breath of fresh air. We've all been through this in one form or another. It's nice to see that you can admit (albeit leaving it unsaid) what most of us never seem to grasp: We're basically selfish creatures at heart (but not by design) and let's face it...it's part of why we're even reading each other's words on our monitors. We all desire acceptance or recognition for one thing or another whether that benefits us in part or on the whole. Even if at first it doesn't, we'll still strive to be loved, applauded, recognized (et cetera)...simply because we feel a need to belong.

I'll agree with that...but I still cringe when I see "kilts" like this.

A very good topic, cloves...these are the kind I truly enjoy.

I'm not certain if it's arrogance or not, but like I said in my first post, it's really selfish of me to think that way. When I catch myself feeling like that, I make a real attempt to stop it.

That's because it IS hypocritcal of me. It was the point of my post.
Even though sometimes I feel like I have ownership of something, I really don't. And I shouldn't get bent out of shape when others discover something I happen to like also, even if I wasn't the one to show it to them first.

Anyways, I hope I didn't p*ss anybody off. I was just trying to make some sort of statment about ownership and maybe even kilt snobbery.

I want to thank you for making that point, Cloves. We all are guilty of snobbery from time to time whether we admit it or not. This actually reminds me of a thread awhile back about who you would not want to see kilted. As most of us do want the kilt to gain wider acceptance, we have to look at our own snobbery to keep it in check. Whether that snobbery pertains to a kilt style you don't like or that person you don't like so you don't want the connection of them wearing a kilt. It's a hard thing to do, but what Cloves has said can help us in recognizing it so we can root it out of ourselves.
As for those who don't want the kilt to gain a wider acceptance, remember that the next time you get some jerk calling your kilt a skirt.
