I don't think it's the same guy, but the Verizon check thing goes back to this blog. It's quite humorous if you ask me.

Apparently Mr. Munroe and Verizon got into quite a discussion about his owing the company some money... $0.002, to be exact. I understand he and a customer service representative had quite a long discussion about it, and the CSR couldn't fathom that .002 wasn't the same as .02!
