    Moving away from the ocean.

Seriously. That has to be the dumbest thing I've ever done in my whole dang life.

I fould a pretty girl in my travels inland, but I need to return to the sea. I miss the smell. The salty air. The sounds. I miss sleeping on boats. The food. I miss sunsets and sunrises. I miss the way the ocean looks like a thousand glittering jewels when the sun hits it just right. I miss the storms.

I feel strangely homesick and sad now after typing that. I miss Aberdeen and Seattle.

I'll echo your pains...I grew up 50 feet from the ocean. Now I have to travel over 1000 miles to even see the open water. it kills me every day to wake up and not smell that sweet salty air.

I still like Dirka's phone call so far.

In 1986 I went to the KY Derby by various means of transportation. After the Derby I only had $50 left in my pocket and was sleeping in what was known as "tent city" and had no clue as to how I was going to get home. I met two guys who had driven down from Boston and had NO money left over for the ride home. I agreed to use my last $50 to pay for tolls and gas and food if they would drop me off in Albany, NY. Great idea! Drunken stories continued for a good part of the night and they explained to me that the driver had a special liscence and was legally blind. Yeah right, we are all a bunch of idiots so I didn't believe it. Turns out when we got on the road the next morning that he wasn't lying. This guy couldn't see traffic signs and needed a "navigator" to tell him which lane to be in and which exits to use. He could follow the lane markings on an interstate but you had to warn him if he got into an exit only lane by accident. Even though I didn't have a liscense at the time (another story) I still drove all of the way through Ohio because this guy had me more than a little nervous. We made it to Albany and these guys dropped me off before proceeding to Boston. Talk about dumb - try riding in a car with a blind guy driving you for almost 13 hours.

I'm not going into details, but let's just say it involves a few guys and me in our late teens, booze, a couple of Michigan State Troopers and the county jail. Living in a very small town can lead to boredom and trouble when you're young and dumb.

The Dumbest things I do KILTED?
Drink way too much, which leads to: try to dance, think i can fight, think i am the handsomest! The next morning i realise that its not me, its the kilt!

Since I've only recently been kilted, I don't have any good stories yet.

HOWEVER, I'm spending this weekend not only wearing my kilt, but also in Chicago durring St. Patrick's day weekend for 4 days. I'll have something by Tuesday I'm sure.

Now do that with a collapsible camp shovel. Didn't take the tip off, but I have a section on the tip where there is no finger print.

Also put my hand through a plate glass window when I was 10 or 11. Still have the scars on my wrist to prove it. My friend across the street had let me continue playing with his GI Joe's on the front porch while he went with his mom to pick up his sister. His older brother came home, decided I shouldn't be allowed to play with them and took them inside. I was banging on the storm door (no screen in place yet) when he opened the front door just as my hand hit the glass. The drop in pressure behind it caused my hand to go right through. That sucked.

A couple months ago I was doing laundry and forgot the clothes. We have this old POS washer that requires the lid to be closed in order to even fill with water, so I had put the soap in and closed the lid to let that mix up a bit before putting the clothes in. Sat down at the computer, got distracted by WOW, went back to move the clothes from washer to dryer and found that there were no clothes in the washer.

I'm going to intentionally leave out the college years. We can discuss those in another 5-6 years.
