The Greeks still have a kilt-like garment. A few weeks ago our Scottish Country dance group did a show for the seniors' group at the Greek Orthodox Church here. They and we loved it. At the end we all had a photos taken with a picture of a Greek gentleman wearing the Greek form of kilt. Especially on Greek Independence day (March 25) one can see pictures of Greek men in fustanellas. The fustanella is a bit longer than the euzones one see today.

My mother is greek as a child up to my teens I was wearing a fustanella for dancing it was nothing strange for my mom to see me in a kilt, the fustanella and the kilt are very different in design, fit and length. Mind you on Greek indpendence I'll be wearing my Holyrood kilt, I have designing a tartan fustanella and it has proven to be very difficult.Once completed I'll post pics.

My company had a muslim man working with us at one time. He saw me in my kilt and we began talking about a garment that muslim men wear that is very long like an Irish lien from the way he described it.

I also have an old Marine Corps buddy of Hindu Indian decent who would wear a long shirt basically, but as it only came to about mid thigh, it was worn with trousers.

I assume in those cultures the style was mainly to protect from the sun and maximize ventilation. In both of these garments they were a linen fabric.

    Just making chit-chat.

Please do post pics. A fustanella in tartan is beyond my ability to imagine. I'd love to see one.
