    I could not agree more.

I was asked today, nicely mind you, if the Scottish Celebrated St. Patricks day and if that was why I was wearing the kilt, funny thing is, doesn't everybody "celebrate" St. Patricks Day?

We're expecting up to 10 inches of snow between now and tomorrow evening. Hope they keep the roads clear so I can go out! (Maybe I should head out now and lay in a supply of Guinness, just in case...)

Brian - we're expecting about twice that, 65 miles east of you. I have plans to drive north to see the Irish Rovers tomorrow and I'll be VERY angry if the weather prevents me from getting there.

Back on topic, I agree with most of the sentiments I've read here, though I do enjoy the fact that Irish music and people with whom to enjoy it are easier to find on March 17.

I'm VERY glad we adopted corned beef. I'll never forget the boiled bacon that my maternal grandmother cooked with the vegetables until the whole thing was a tasteless mess.

The thing that always gets me is the green bread in the grocery store.

Hey, when bread turns green I throw it out!!

Preach on! About 15-30 of us do kilt nights about once a month, and we'll do them at Irish Pubs, and people will say "It's not St. Patrick's day, why are you wearing your kilt?" To which I usually respond " Why are you wearing those pants?"

Saint Patrick's Day (Irish: Lá 'le Pádraig or Lá Fhéile Pádraig), colloquially Paddy's Day or St. Patty's Day, is the feast day which annually celebrates Saint Patrick (373-493), the patron saint of Ireland, on March 17.
Ah yes, Wikapedia, the death of human intelligence. St. Patrick is one of three Saints who are Patron Saints of Ireland and his day deserves to be recognized as the Feast of St. Patrick and not St Paddy. The other two, of course are St. Columba and St. Brigid. While the Irish Padraig may be shortened to Paddy in Ireland, it is not appropriate in the states to shorten Patrick to Paddy. Before it became an excuse to abuse the Irish culture the Feast of St. Patrick was one of two Feast days in the Catholic church during the Lenten period with the other being the Feast of St. Joseph on March 19th. Things have changed over the years but these were the two days of feasting for a long time during a period of contemplations and self denial.

Sorry, didn't mean to get religious about things but it's a lot of how I was raised. Mods, you can delete if you think it's inappropriate.

I had an uncle on my dad's side...the Polish side...who owned a local tavern in our predominently Irish neighborhood. He was apt to get no little verbal abuse from the locals on March 17th. He was a very in-yer-face kind of guy so he began the practice of (I am not kidding about this) painting his...ahem...posterior kelly green on St. Patricks Day and proudly exhibiting it to anyone who came into his saloon and made a disparaging remark about his Polish-ness.

Life of the party, that guy!
