I work for the public railroads here in .be, first day I wore my kilt (ever I might add, see picture in the newbies forum) I decided to bite the bullet also and just go out there as well as show off to my colleagues. Didn't get any bad reactions. (don't know what they might really be thinking though )

Anyway, congrats, those first steps outside where the hardest for me as well! (and then I just kept walking since I was too far out of my appartment to not have been seen already anyway. ;-) )

So far the reception has been pretty good, even though as I walk around I am noticing that almost NO ONE is in the office today, however I just had the first negative reaction to the kilt.

One of the paralegals came in to my office to ask about some electronic files that were missing from her database and almost immediately said, "Are you wearing a skirt?" To which I replied, "I'm wearing my kilt." She then says, "You're so cute, you're wearing a skirt."

Pretty inoffensive in a big picture sort of way however this particular paralegal is a complete flaming and I knew she meant it as a dig. The whole rest of the time she was talking to me all I could think of is how lucky she is that I didn't get out my titanium spork and set about wrecking havoc. Or pehaps smacked her with the salmon I keep handy for just such occasions.

Phew. I feel better now that I vented. Now I am curious to see if anything gets said in out Monday staff meeting since this paralegal is the sort to stir up trouble. Fortunately we have photographic evidence of my boss attending Star Trek movies in full Klingon regalia.

Let it roll like water off a ducks back.
You shouldn't care what people like that think. Positives will always WAY outnumber the negatives.
It don't mean a thing, if you aint got that swing!!

Careful lad, the fish slapping dance is best reserved for dire circumstances.

she has nothing better to do with her venom, and clearly has a gutful of it....so you got a dose today. Everybody knows it, too, eh?

    she's irrelevant.

You wear your kilt when you feel like it, do your job well and hold your head high.

I prefer to think of this as Fish Smackdown or perhaps The People's Fish rather than an actual dance.

Thanks guys! I just needed to vent, particularly since all the other reactions have been VERY positive.

I'm happy to hear that you have had a positive reaction. I certainly would not let the paralegal get to me. If you continue to get ribbing remarks from her on how cute you look in your skirt, you might tell here "so does the USMC Pipe and Drum Band, and for that matter the Pipe and Drum Bands that represent every single branch of the US Military Service."

"Damn right I look good in a skirt. It's a man's skirt, called a kilt. Hey, I'll bet you'd look good in a skirt, too. . . . or is it sexual harrassment if I mention that?"
