Well, the Irish *used to* celebrate in London. I can't remember any parades, but I do remember attending the ball in St Pancras town hall -- the biggest hall I'd ever seen, it seemed -- packed with millions of energetic Irish doing every dance on the program. An Irish ceili dance can last 10 - 15 minutes, non-stop. Barely time to swallow a gulp of Guinness and on to the next dance. Exhilarating! With such fantastic rhythms, you just could not sit down (not that I remeber seeing any seats, any way). In those days (40 years ago), only the solo performers wore kilts. Times have probably changed. In those days the solists were men. All the films and photos today seem to be of young wenches in mini-skirts. Martin, in nostalgic mood.
