There are a lot of provincial statutory holidays as well, and in B.C., Remembrance Day is one of them. I know that it isn't in Ontario.

I don't want people to start saying, "Hey! The eleventh! Let's go fishing!"

    THAT isn't right.
I totally agree. Lots of people just look at it as another day off. I use the day to attend the ceremony at the Cenotaph, and it's usually a pretty quiet and thoughtful day for me.

    it's CANUK.

    CAN/UK meaning Canada/United Kingdom.
soon the Canadians became referred to as CANUKS.
it stuck and has been there ever since.
Not so. The origin of the word Canuck is unclear, but it was in use at least as early as 1869 as the name of "Johnny Canuck," a character in the political cartoon of the same name.

I'm glad you do. Those other fellows you describe just anger me.

I thought that the sixth of April was already recognized nationally as Tartan Day in Canada, but I guess it's the individual provinces that have recognized it.

Anyway, I thought some of the Canadian members of this board might be interested in it. The link above provides instructions on how to view the bill.
Hey there, I'm a member of the St. Andrew-Caledonian Society of Calgary. I appreciate you linking to our Tartan Day page.

As a society, we have to ask the city each year to recognize Tartan Day which they have graciously done for us.

With Bill C402, this would recognize Tartan Day nationally not as a civic holiday but merely to recognize the contribution of Scots' in building our country. Everyone, feel free to contact your MP to support this bill and we could see a national Tartan Day.

    thanks.
