I put in an order for those "Disney" pin locks and they arrived today.
All I can say is fantastic! They lock to the pin perfectly and here is a picture of the first one I have used (I ordered 60)!
I ordered them from ebay seller mmmjcoz who also has a website at www.pinseller.com and he was fascinated to hear what I intended to use them for. I will be emailing him with the photos to demonstrate that there is a whole new potential market out there!

McClef,
Glad the locking pin backs work for you. I actually got the idea after going to DisneyWorld on our honeymoon. The little rubber backs that come with the disney pins fall off after getting warm. Of course they make a killing off the locking pin backs in the parks. Switched all the pins on my "Groom" hat over to the locking backs and never lost one. Wore my Black UK to Epcot and got thinking about the kilt pin. I've lost one kilt pin in a port-a-john prior, but haven't lost one since.

I'm very grateful for the pointer that you gave Gordon!
It's a very simple and cost-effective solution indeed.

Small barrel fits over the kilt pin back, then using the small allen wrench tighten it up. You can go forever without losing your kilt pin. Just Google Search "Disney Locking Pin Backs"
This works especially if you have a certain pin you like. why take it off your kilt. You can just leave it there ready for the next time you wear it. Works for me.
These are wheel collars and you can get them from a hobby shop that sell r/c planes for only a couple of dollars.

Well I found wheel collars on http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0093p?&C=QDD at $1.39 for 4 which makes the equivalent price for the 60 that I bought $27.80. I got the pin locks for $25.90 and that includes the international postage.
So still a very good deal as I said.

That is a good solution for those that only have a few kilts/pins to worry about. At least it's cheaper that way. Now for someone like McClef or Turpin, that would be expensive. Thanks for the pointer. I'll look next time I'm in a Hobbytown.

Even cheaper for me as the vendor has just refunded me the money as a thank you for bringing a whole new potential market to his notice!

Well that's a stinker for me. I just bought one pack from the same seller on ebay not more than 2 days before I posted originally.
Guess that Hind sight is kicking me in the kilt right about now.

I didn't ask for or expect such a gesture LordKiltClad.
I simply wrote to the vendor saying that I had tried the product for the purpose of securing kilt pins and that they worked very well for that purpose. He replied asking a couple of questions about kilt pins and I sent him the photos for illustration.
But as you were the first one to point them out I am perfectly willing to share my ill-gotten gains and refund your one pack by PayPal.
