Sounds like a great first time out. After eight years of going about kilted, the worst reactions are mild compared to experiences I've had based on my race.
My favorite place to go kilted is the local Walgreen's. The male employees are just dumbfounded, but the female clerks love the kilts and are clearly dissapointed on the few occassions I come in wearing trousers.
Gotta keep the ladies happy! ;)
