My mother in law was very uncomfortable with Panache wearing the kilt, until we went to an event at their retirement community (a choir performance that my father in law was in). About 1/3 of the attendees came up to us (not all at once, individually) and began to compliment him and expound on their Scottish heritage and discuss clans and tartan. The other 2/3 just ignored it. Then she got many people over the following weeks complimenting her on her wonderful son. Ever since then, she just smiles when he wears it. In fact on St. Patricks day, she complimented a young man wearing a kilt, by basically saying, "Good on you! My son wears kilts too!"

Be well,
