    herringbone tweed

Thinking about trying my hand at making a kilt out of a wool herringbone tweed material. Is there anyone out there thats done this? Anything to watch out for with tweed any of that kind of stuff. Its a medium weith, and my sewing machine is broke so it will have to be hand sewn. Its about 4 feet and double width, so I have enough to make a full 8 yarder if I want. any tips on that? thanks guys!

Might want to drop both Rocky Roeger of USA Kilts and Matt Newsome a PM, I know that both of them now offer tweed kilts. Matt did a SUPER job on my box pleated four yarder. At a kilt night recently, someone asked why my kilt wasn't tartan, I just said, "Aye, and tweed's no Scots, now is it?"

If it is a good quality wool fabric it will be a joy to work with. Nothing like it.

Well, at this site: http://www.21stcenturykilts.com/hire.htm you can see pinstripes, grays, and blues. I don't see why a herringbone tweed wouldn't work as well.

Personally, I only wear tartan or a saffron, but I have to admit those pictures look pretty sharp.

Well what made me think of it is Rockys new line of tweed and solid wool kilts. He has a couple pics on his site and they look just awesome. The tweed I have is a green herringbone. I got almost five yards by 64 inch width for only $30

Ha, ha, I didn't realize until just now that 21st Century Kilts was run by Geoffrey (Tailor).
