    Macdonald Modern Dress flashes

As some of you might remember I'm working on making a fly-plaid to go with my Dad's favourite kilt, a Macdonald modern dress that was woven with some very bright colours and large blocking.

I'm still sewing the fly, but I decided to make a few flashes for him to go with it.

    Here's the pictures...

First, I cut four pieces of the fabric to the same pattern.

Then I lined them up so that the pattern matched, folded them to make the general 'Flash' shape, ironed them and used thin paper and fabric glue to close them off.

Then I lined them up again and sewed the loops in the top.

Finally, I put them on to make sure that the pattern continued and matched the kilt.

And here they are being worn with some black hose.

Now here's hoping that the fly-plaid turns out as well.

    Nicely done Arlen!
"A veteran, whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve, is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life." That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it." anon

    Thank you.
I'm trying to build up my skills with these things bit by bit. Every project seems to be a little better than the last.

    *Laughs*
    Thank you.
I have to admit, my sewing seems very rough to me, but that may because my future mother-in-law is an award winning quilter and my fiance is an avid knitter.
Both of them are doing a good job of teaching me and my Mum is teaching me how to work a sewing machine.

By this time next year I hope to have made my own kilt and knitted my own cable hose to go.

Thank you. I'll be sure to pass on the compliment.

And I have to compliment you, too. I've seen just what hard and intricate work quilting is. It's always good to see people who keep up the tradition.
