Due to the "crunch" sound of the boots on the ground, right?

    Fiddler's Green

Are you referring to the old army song Fiddler's Green?

Halfway down the trail to hell
    In a shady meadow green,
Are the souls of all dead troopers camped
    Near a good old-time canteen
    And this eternal resting place
    Is known as Fiddler's Green.

Marching past, straight through to hell,
    The infantry are seen,
    Accompanied by the Engineers,
    Artillery and Marine,
For none but the shades of Cavalrymen
    Dismount at Fiddlers' Green.
Though some go curving down the trail
    To seek a warmer scene,
No trooper ever gets to Hell
    Ere he's emptied his canteen,
And so rides back to drink again
    With friends at Fiddlers' Green.

And so when man and horse go down
    Beneath a saber keen,
Or in a roaring charge or fierce melee
    You stop a bullet clean,
And the hostiles come to get your scalp,
    Just empty your canteen,
And put your pistol to your head
    And go to Fiddlers' Green.

    Cheers,

    Todd

Wow, it's odd that crest is so difficult to find, as there's a Battalion of them here on Fort Carson, if you need anymore crests, let me know.

Ya well all else aside I have oh so not fond memories of doing a house raid while a platoon of Cav stood by and watched in amazment. Now thats no big deal until you realize at the time I was on a Lite birds PSD and he was tired of waiting in the street for the lazy cav to do their job. Oh and including the LTC and the S3 Maj there were a total of 11 of us on the ground and almost 30 cav. Go figure. But seriously I am just glad to see that there is so much green floating around these boards.

    Oh how times have changed!
I was in the 2/12 1st Air Cav. in Nam
the only riding I did in a chopper was from the fire base to the bush
and back to the firebase 30 days later.
once we got out of the chopper we walked every where until they picked us up again

Remember mech may ride up to enemy lines But when Air-Mobile Infantry gets out of that bird they are behind enemy lines

Air-Mobile Infantry goes where Mech can't and everyone fears to tred.

Actually, it seems to be a universal name for Infantry guys. My PSG calls me one. I can't help it if I see everything through blue lenses - even Signal Corp missions.
