Congratulations on the gifts.
If I am still in Scotland next year or am back visiting, I'll be happy to show you some really good trout and salmon fishing spots.
You might want to look at the DIY forum in the next few weeks, too.
I'm waiting for a very kind gift of some sheepskin that I will cover my sporran with and use to hold my flies.

For those who are interested in beginning or the experienced flyfisher, I recommend a book...out of print...but if you can find one you will LYAO.
"How To Fool Fish With Feathers"
http://www.amazon.com/How-Fool-Fish-...5255637&sr=8-2
There are a lot of practical guides to flyfishing but this one is semi-practical and semi-gonzo. The author is a Chciago Tribune sportswriter and the illustrator is one of the Trib's editorial cartoonists (MacNeely did the comic strip "Shoe"...probably not in a lot of papers and "Pluggers" which I hope has had wider circulation).

To the best of my knowledge, both gentlemen have passed away...the Pluggers strip has been taken over by a successor.
Anyway, it's a hoot...I stayed away from flyfishing because it looked way too serious and way too expensive until I read this book...after that, the snob appeal was stripped away and it has proven to be good, clean fun.
By the way, if you ever should see several guys flyfishing and wonder which one is me, I'm NOT the one who looks like an advert for Orvis.
Best
