As I was scanning through the new posts today, I was looking for a place to start a thrrread about my latest internet find.

The Thread-related stuff is at the bottom of this essay!

Persuant to a conversation with a "kilted" (see footnote, if I remember to write it) young soldier at work one day, I was Googling Kilts and Herrenrock (litterally, men's skirts) and Nuernburg to find the shop he told me he had bought his from.

I did find a couple of Goth and Punk types stores selling leather skirts and mini-skirts but nothing that was actually a kilt. Or, at least, anything I would be seen in at my age.

I did, however, come across a llink for the BAGEV, which translates to the Bagpipe Association of Germany (http://www.bagev.de)and a link for the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association
(http://www.rspba.org) which of course links to the Glasgow group. Very Cool.

And on the BAG website...a long list of pipe bands in Germany with a few links to Schottische Festivals, Piping Competitions, Schools and more.

www.highland-dragon.com is one band link and the pages are in English as well as German.

So, relating to this thread...on the site I also found info for the

Xanten, Germany (the only town in Germany starting with an X) Schottische Festival on 15-17 June. Xanten is in the area of Koln, if i read the map right.

Also of note, Stuttgart University has a Pipe Band.

And, there is a Heidelberg and District Pipe and Drum Club. http://www.heidelberganddistrict.de/

and this event

. Highland Games Angelbachtal im Schloßpark Eichtersheim
am 7./8. Juli 2007

in the very near Heidelberg area.

[edit] Neighboring Communities
The following cities and municipalities border Angelbachtal, clockwise from the North:

Sinsheim-Eschelbach
Sinsheim-Dühren
Sinsheim-Waldangelloch
Östringen (Karlsruhe)
Mühlhausen (Kraichgau).

Just thought I would throw this out here...

maybe it should be in Events or someplace...
