Vimy parade in Ottawa
Don't know how many of you watched the Vimy ridge 90th anniversary on tv yesterday. But the piper doing the lament in Ottawa was dressed as a piper of the 42nd battalion CEF. (The Royal Highlanders of Canada).

I was there. The Cameron Highlanders of Ottawa were on parade as well.

Vimy...
I gave my WWI lecture today in my history class and I mentioned Vimy and the sacrifice Canada paid there. I want to make sure my American students know Canada's proud record in military history.
Lest we forget.

I only saw little bits of TV coverage. There was a local service to remember Vimy Ridge, but unfortunately I had to miss it.
I did buy the Red Ensign last week and hung it in honour and remembrance this weekend.

I missed the ceremony in Vimy, but caught most of the Ottawa one. I have friends in both the GGFGs and the Camerons. Both units were there.

I too missed the main one on TV, but caught some of the Ottawa one on TV. I would have been there but I am back in Vic on parental. I work at NEWC in Ottawa.

I had to work, but I taped most of it. I enjoyed the soldiers in the period costumes around the tomb of the unknown solider. The kilt apron on the kilted solider was very neat to see. I plan on heading to the new War Museum once my summer vacation starts!

I highly recommend the War Museum, SIWC.
Have visited twice, and there's more to see.
They've done a great job.

KANDAHAR, AFGHANISTAN — To the skirl of a lone bagpiper, Canadian troops in Afghanistan bowed their heads Monday to mark the 90th anniversary of the battle of Vimy Ridge. The ceremony was held near a small cenotaph that contains the pictures and names of 45 Canadian soldiers and one diplomat who have been killed in Afghanistan since April, 2002.
Soon the names and pictures of six more troops, all members of Hotel company, will be added to the marble monument. Sgt. Donald Lucas, Cpl. Aaron Williams, Pte. Kevin Vincent Kennedy and Pte. David Robert Greenslade, all of the Gagetown, N.B.-based 2nd Battalion, The Royal Canadian Regiment, died Sunday in the explosion along with Cpl. Christopher Paul Stannix, a reservist with the Halifax-based Princess Louise Fusiliers.
