    Oy, JimB:

Just out of curiosity, which Sandwich Islands were you talking about? The South Sandwich islands or the Sandwich Islands (AKA Hawaii)? If it's Hawaii, i have a cool email to send you from a good friend who lived there awhile (some of it outdated). Anyway, PM me and I can forward it.

I like medieval whodunnits. Ellis Peters is the most famous with her
Brother Cadfael books. It starts with 'A Rare Benedictine' and has 20 books in the series. Light entertaining reading..........AElfric

Stephen lawhead has 2 series that I would recommend

Song of albion (3 books) if your a reader than you'll finish all 3 books in about a week (I got so into them I finished all 3 in 4 days)

And the pendragon cycle (5 books)

Along the lines of outlander is son of the sword( 4 books all fast reads)
Which reminds me....song of albion is like outlander too.... But its set in the Celtic otherworld and the last line in the last book have me chills!

Enjoy your trip, and the books you end up bringing along

If you are into Scottish history, you might consider "Scotland, The story of a Nation" by Magnus Magnusson. It is a very well written and entertaining book. Warning: It is a very thick book with 700 plus pages but he does an excellent job of making history come alive.
