The generally accepted number is between 8-15% of the population. The rest of you are trite conformists. ![Very Happy](http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)
Has anyone else ever heard the term "Ciotóg" before? It's Irish Gaelic for 'strange person' but in everyday use it usually meant someone who is left handed. I thought that pretty appropriate for this forum.

Lefty Here
Yup. I'm left handed but play hockey and golf righty. Probably because those were the only sticks/clubs available when i was a lad. Bat righty (extension of the golf motion.) But in all else very lefty. (Right brained Scientist go figure) Was thinking about how this will effect playing the pipes? Might take them up this year.

On the pipes it will really depend. You CAN play left handed, but you'll be heavily lobbied to just play right handed. That's been the case with all the lefties I know who play.
In highland snare drumming being a lefty is a bit of an advantage, the left hand plays with a particularly unnatural motion that right handed players have a hard time with but lefties pick up easier because of it being their main hand. Right hand technique is a lot more natural in either case.

"Everyone is born left-handed. You become right-handed when you commit your first sin."

I know what you mean about "right" handed people doing things funny.
Same here.

A leftie here, with ambidextrous tendencies due to societies dictates!
Can do most thing with my right hand after 40+ years of "education". Although that makes me pretty much hand independent at this point. I guess that's a good thing.

I'm also a leftie. I have always used scissors with my right hand, because growing up we could not afford left handed scissors on the commune. Also, when I was in veterinary school, I basically learned how to do surgery right handed as well (again, could not afford the left handed surgical instruments). So I have a bizzare surgical technique-I do closure and cutting with scissors right handed and everything else left handed. When I sew, I drive the needle left handed, but do all my cutting right handed. I actually cannot use left handed scissors!
Be well,

I'm very impressed - who knew so many of our kilted brothers and sisters are southpaws! My dad is a leftie but unfortunately I wasn't blessed with that trait.

Unfortunately, my left hand doesn't know what my right hand is doing. Always had a near sighted right eye after a sandstorm injury when I was a child. Got it lasered about five years ago but I still do all visually loaded tasks as a lefty.
