Nice work! a cork screw is an often overlooked tool, but one that is hard to subsitute when needed. I have bought many a corkscrew on vacation after buying local wine to sample.

You know, I really quite like that.
But I have enough projects... No... No, I don't have time for that, too...

Here's Why...
Let me tell you "why" this is cool, nice work, etc...
This took forethought and the execution along with the carving makes it a work of art and very functional. The pictures also help with the presentation.
Good job mate,

Thanks for the compliments. I tucked it into my sock this evening and used it several times. The barkeeps at the event I was attending thought it was pretty nifty as well.

Part Deux...
OK, so I really appreciated all the positive comments but, honestly, my first effort, while effective, was pretty crude. I started over, this time with a slightly larger piece of maple salvaged from the kindling wood box. Applied some band saw work and much more filing and sanding than the original. Five coats of poly with lots of steel wool between coats.
I even added a celtic knot button to the top of the thistle.

Beauty you got there. but in my opinion, if you hit the metal part up with a couple of passes with a steel wire wheel on a grinder, it would shine like new.
looks good though, I think it would look good in ebony too.

Tartan Hiker - Like the Mk2 version but the best thing is that you can take it apart. You could have different color woods for different tartans!!
