Gatlinburg Highland Games
Does anyone know what date the Gatlinburg Highland Games are being held. I am moving to Tennessee early in May and hope to be in time for the games.

That was my first Games last year. Did a quick(?) run down from Chicago for them. Might have to consider a quick run up from Tampa this year! A great smaller Games. Very personable, although muddy last year. And some great people.

Last year was my first at these games. If it rains be ready for some serious mud. I've learned that because its an athletic field for the high school, meaning special soil and grass, they can't put straw down to lesson the effects of the mud. So don't wear any shoes you're really attached to.
I don't think I'll make it back this year. We're already going to Gatlinburg this weekend for a wedding, so I'll probably not make another trip over in such a short time. But they are nice for their size. I was suprised at the number of vendors they had. Quite a few with a nice variety. There was a lady there selling Harris Tweed material.

Last year, after Rob (Kiltedcodewarrior) and I left the Albannach stage, I just decided that with the mud, and the pouring rain that was making new mud, I was better off barefooted, so I finished the day off with shoes slung over my shoulder.
Heath, I hate I'm not going to see you and Lisa at G'burg this year, but I understand. I've been traveling so much this year that I'm second guessing myself on games, too. I'll try and catch you at the Clan Barclay gathering in middle Tennessee in the fall.
I, as of now, am going to try to be there - I won't get there till early afternoon on Saturday due to a commitment on Saturday morning, but I do plan to be there. It is a great games with great people and great vendors. It has the energy and attitude of games that are much larger.

I think the mud is an annual deal there. Last year was quite soggy as was the year before. In '05 it rained buckets on Friday and Friday nite, but on Saturday the sun was out in full force but the ground was saturated. You're right about them being a nice "smaller" games, just have to deal w/ all the Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg tourist trap stuff.
Cheers,

Sure it's muddy, but on the plus side:
You're in the beautiful Smoky Mountains
You're in the South (God's country as it's known locally)
And there is a Waffle House at nearly every exit on the interstate!
How can you top that?
