Women's curiosity about what is worn under a kilt is not new. See this picture depicting highland military dress circa 1815, just after the War of 1812. It's title is, "Der Vorwand ("the pretext")".

Panache takes Mod hat off...
To those who have mentioned pulling out their sgian dubh on someone who lifted up their kilt, here are some points to ponder.
Are you really willing to stab someone, perhaps kill them, because they were rude?
Are you ready for the time when you draw your sgian dubh and the other person draws a knife of thier own?
What if they take yours away from you?
What if they pull a gun because you pulled a knife?
Are you prepared for someone to call the police because you were brandishing a weapon?
Things can escalate very quickly
I think if one draws a weapon on another human being it's because someone's life is at risk. It should be a last resort. To do so otherwise seems like mere bravado and an invitation to disaster.
I just wrote this on another thread but it seems especially relevant here:
A Small Tale
A fierce warrior came to see a most revered and wise teacher.
The warrior said brusquely "Master, you are renown for your wisdom as I am for my prowess in battle, I wish you to teach me something!"
The aged master looked up from his meditations at the rough warrior before him. The Master said “You have the face of a pig!”
The warrior drew his sword and prepared to strike.
The Master said calmly “Thus open the Gates of Hell”.
The Warrior paused, he thought, and returned his sword to his scabbard.
The Master said calmly “Thus open the Gates of Heaven”.
Something to think about.
Respectfully
Jamie

Those are great points. I drew because I knew the person.
as for if I needed to draw in threatening, I have been trained in knife and pointed weapon fighting.
I do know what your saying however. and I think your right that we need to be careful.
thanks!

Just a point of clarification, here - It's OK for Panache to do this, but not anyone else?
I ask only because last time *I* made a comment like this, the thread got closed, locked, and I got warned about it.
It seems just a bit unfair to allow the Moderators to do things with impunity that the rest of us get spanked for.

Panache was pointing out that this option is far from the best course of action. Are you saying that you got your knuckles rapped for also suggesting that one leaves his sgian dubh in his hose?

Actually, no. I got my knuckles rapped for mentioning that a sgian dubh isn't necessarily a weapon.

Wow, I'm surprised that happened.
A modern sgian dubh is ornamental as such, as most today don't even have a edge. Having said this, I also believe it unwise to draw it in such situations.

Rapped, and rightly so.
A sgian dubh is an edged weapon. Unless it's a bottle opener, or a safety version, it's a 3-4" KNIFE. I would ALWAYS assume it is sharpened. People DO do stupid things.
If you want to pull it out on someone, it might very well be the LAST in a long line of Very Bad Decisions.
A simple "Not cool, bro..." may put a stop to the behavior. Or other responses geared towards the level of the lifter's intent.
I may respond to the foiled lift with a stern glare (yielding an implied promise of mayhem) to the drunken douchebag, or a simple "That would be RUDE AND IMPROPER" to the drunken female lifter.
I have been the ONLY one in a kilt in several places - Duke's Roadhouse, a country bar, and a local Bar & Grill. Most people generally do not mess with a man in a kilt, even in Texas...

If it's used as a weapon. If not, it's a tool.
By your own statement, a ballpoint pen, a chopstick, and a paperclip are all weapons. After all, each item could be used to make holes in people. Let's ban all of those from public carry, too.
