Not trying to get into a "banning" argument with you, Caradoc.
Simply because we kilties know the the sgian dubh to be ornamental, doesn't mean the average person knows most of them are not sharpened. They, as well as many police officers, or even persons who may be "packing heat" (legally or no), may find justification and hence, vindication, in the use of lethal force because the jury may hear "He pulled a knife on me, so I had to shoot him" as the reason.
The rest of the world is NOT as "in the know" on such accoutrements.
You seem to be assuming all the rest of the trousered populace even knows what a sgian dubh is and its function is with Highland clothing.
THEY see "knife"..

Oh brother...
Caradoc, the point Panache tried to illustrate was that violence solves nothing and mention of it isn't necessarily appreciated by some on this forum.
