    Smile I've got a convert

This past weekend was the Loch Norman Highland Games and my neighbor wanted to go down and compete in the amature games. I of course informed him he would have to be kilted to compete. So he asked me to make him a kilt. He's of german descent, so not much into the kilt wearing. I made him a black canvas x-kilt (pictures forcoming) and had enough to make myself one as well (though I made mine with symetrical knife pleats, again pictures forcoming). So we get to games on Sunday and he puts on his kilt for the first time (other than for fittings) we get no more that 20 yards from the car and I hear him say "You know I think I could get into this kilt thing". After all day at the games he gone hardcore on me. He called me this morning from the fabric shop to tell me about the maroon fabric he found, picked up swatches and everything. Looks like I'm going to be busy for a while.

On a side note I wore my x-kilt on Saturday and had several people comment on my "UK". When I told them I made it they asked if I had a business card. I'm thinking I might have small side business prospect in the works.

Sounds like a great day nice of you to make him a kilt, now he can wear it anytime he wants.

let's ignore the fact that i am obviously biased. i went to high school with KiltedTurtle and we even used to sleep together. (what? why is everyone looking at me so strangely?)

i will add that i was really impressed. he has a gift for this kilt making thing. great attention to detail. all the stitching was solid. i'm sure his kilts can take as much abuse as the cloth can take. and he tackled some things that would scare most beginners: taper from hips to waist, pockets (not the simple patch kind either), and clean looking belt-loops.

Excellent. Wonderful to win another convert, expecially by your own handiwork.

    Cool

oh and i forgot to mention what his new convert said on the topic of the kilt's "freedom" and comfort... with a wide stance and a wry smile, he just said "it is like bowling without gutters".

(i'm still trying to do the math on that one.)

I'll second what furrycelt said (except for the sleeping together bit)
The kilt did look very professional. I was surprised it was his first attempt at one.

Hey turtle, how did your friend do in the games? I wish I could have stayed and competed on Sunday.
