What are your Favorite Irish Bands to listen to?

Cheers to everyone! I just thought that there are probably hundreds of bands around the US and Europe that I and most people have never heard of because they are probably local Bands. I thought i'd start a Thread to get a good list of music that we can all check out when we have time. We only had about 4-5 bands here in Arizona that played Irish music, but 3 of them are now broken up. If you get a chance check out these few online though.

My wife and I had the pleasure of seeing Raglan Road in Philadelphia in a small pub a few years ago. We still really enjoy listening to their CD. I'd encourage a visit to this site to check out their samples. http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/raglanroad

I'd have to say the Flint Scottish Pipe Band..but that probably doesn't count! However, FSPB has had a pretty cool Irish/Celtic group play at their big February blast the last few years...Equinox...they are very good!

I'm all for Hunting McLeod. local band and i'm friends with a couple of the guys (the fiddler was in the Coast Guard Aux. with me). Being a Canadian band they are more popular in the States. They play mainly at the eastern seaboard highland festivals.

I guess I'll be the first one to mention the Chieftains. They're old-school, but I dig 'em.

I agree with you Snakeyes, they may be "Old School" but they can really jam. Besides you gotta know where you've been in order to get where your going! Most of the newer bands will admit to the influences of those that came before like the Chieftains, the Dubliners, The Irish Rovers, The Corries, etc.

Some fun bands to listen too (IMO) are bands like Black 47, The Bloody Irish Boys, Christy Moore (not local, but really good stuff), The Elders, Gaelic Storm, Great Big Sea, Irish Rovers, Korpilaani (if you can find their stuff, its like heavy metal with Irish instruments thrown in with some bagpipes), Neck, Shebeen, Silly Wizard, Stiff little fingers, The Tossers Flatfoot 56, American Wake etc. Most of these bands I think are a little more "americanized", but good stuff none the less.
