Some fun bands to listen too (IMO) are bands like Black 47, The Bloody Irish Boys, Christy Moore (not local, but really good stuff), The Elders, Gaelic Storm, Great Big Sea, Irish Rovers, Korpilaani (if you can find their stuff, its like heavy metal with Irish instruments thrown in with some bagpipes), Neck, Shebeen, Silly Wizard, Stiff little fingers, The Tossers Flatfoot 56, American Wake etc. Most of these bands I think are a little more "americanized", but good stuff none the less. I have a friend who runs an online radio station. Not to plug him or anything, but the website is: http://www.live365.com/stations/bronxgael

    favourite Irish group...

    The Cassidys -- Na Casaidigh:

    http://www.thecassidys.com/flash/start.html

I've been to two of their shows when they came to Springfield back in the late 90s -- and even got to party with them at a local pub afterwards!

Only one album is available in the states, though -- more's the pity!

Phil Coulter is a little known but great Irish/Celtic musician, you can sample some of his music at www.philcoulter.com, click on sounds at the top of the page.

One more I forgot to mention: not a band, but a *great* Scottish fiddle player, check out Bonnie Rideout. Some of her stuff will have pipes or whistles, some drums, but it's all really good.

Bryan...the Indulgers are a good local band, too...
