"The Queen" - The Movie
My wife and I watched "The Queen" on DVD last night. Lots of kilted scenes of Prince Charles and others in the movie, and many great location shots filmed in Scotland. The movie itself was very well done, and the acting top rate.
Overall the movie chronicle's the events surrounding the Royal family, and Tony Blair's interaction with the Queen during the week of the the death of Dianna. I will refrain from commenting directly on the movie content, as it can be little political in nature.
I would give it 4 out of 5 stars (for kilted content - not for the movie).

That sounds worthwhile. I bought this DVD for my wife when it was released a few weeks back, but we haven't had time to look at it yet. Something to look forward too.

We saw this movie in the theater when it was first released in the states. Very well done and worth a watch just for the scenery.
It just became available on DVD in the states last Tuesday. Eagerly awaiting delivery.

You know, the kilted scenes are great and it's a pretty damn good film. The cast was first rate.
And it reinforced my desire to get a kilt in the Balmoral tartan.

I like the muted colors of the Balmoral tartan myself. To get it however you have to basically get permission from the Queen. It's a private Royal tartan and HIGHLY restricted.

My wife and I also saw The Queen in the theatre - we were happily suprised by just what a fine movie it is. The acting is first rate and it is beautifully filmed.

Don't I know it.
I wrote off for permission a long time ago and was basically told 'The fact that you really like the tartan and think the Queen is nice doesn't mean you get to wear it.'
I might have to compromise and just get something like the Granite tartan.

Balmoral Tartan
Tartanfinder lists about five variants of Balmoral.
Arthur, here photographed at Carter Bar in 1990, was authorised to wear the Balmoral tartan.

See, it was the original balmoral I wanted. The one designed for/by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert.
But I've never been given permission to wear it, let alone get any of it to make a kilt with.
I guess I can try again, though.
And, to keep this on topic, I really do reccomend the Queen as a film with favourable kitage in it.

I would presume that only the Royal kilt makers would be able to obtain a supply of the tartan to begin with.
I also presume that the film makers were able to get permission in order for the tartan to be depicted in the film.
The tartan was also used in the TV series Edward and Mrs Simpson when it was worn in several scenes by Edward Fox who was playing Edward VIII.
I wonder if there is a set of rules/guidelines somewhere about who may apply for and gain permission and who makes the decision on the Queen's behalf as she never replies to letters personally. Was the refusal signed by a Lady in Waiting Arlen?
