I typically wear my belt so that the top straps are covered and run it through the belt loops on the back just to keep it from slipping up my back.

I'm wearing my Hunting Mcleod SWK standard and top edge is 2 1/4" above my navel. I'm like Cavscout (just under 5' 11" with a longer torso) and I've found the 24" length perfect (my custom made kilts are all to that length.
I remember DaveDove saying somewhere that at first it takes a little getting used to, wearing something that high on your waist. Do it though and post a picture and let us be the judge...err give you our feedback.

    Cheers

On my SWK I have to wear it 2" above my navel (where it is worn traditionally) however I find with mine the strapped portion seems to find my waist after a while. At this point my knees are covered. I suggest that you wear it for a while before hemming and see where your kilt wants to sit naturally. Then measure how much needs to be hemmed, no need to hem it twice. BTW I'm 5'11" myself. Mine is unhemmed but I do have to cinch a belt up just below the buckles to compensate for the wandering kilt.

I am pointing at my navel in this one.

This is where I think the top should be.

This is where I think the top should rest.

This is just another where I think the top should rest.

Ok- this is my first time posting pics, so I hope I did this right. We will see.

Please let me know what you guys think about the lenght and where the top is resting.
    Thanks
    Sean

I think that they are at an exceptable height at the knee and it doesn't appear too high at the waist. A kilt can come to mid knee without the kilt police handing out notice of infractions. And if they do just boot 'em in the sporran.

    Sean,

Looking at the pictures the length looks fine (though I would split the difference between pic #1 and pic #2). I think putting on your belt and sporran is going to make a big difference in how it looks on you.

    Cheers

Agreed. In the last pic, you're trying to wear it like pants. Kilts should be worn higher.

Somewhere between one and two gets my vote as well, and please post some pics when you can with the sporran and other accessories on so that we can see what the entire effect will be.

i think it looks like a great length. And i'll echo what the boys have said.....a belt and sporran will really break up what looks like a long expanse of kilt.

oh, and by the way...nice doggie
