The best news from Edinburgh
I am so so thrilled I almost started this post in the "celebration" section. What marvelous timing. Sunday morning, I'm getting out of the shower and fastening up the PK camo I got from Riverkilt, my son brings me the phone and it is my daughter who lives in Edinburgh. After a bit of small talk, she informs me that she called because it was Mother's Day...then the bombshell---she is going to be a mother!!!my first grandchild (by blood)is due in early December!! I feel just like Grandpa Walton! Since Scotland has socialist medicine, and untrasounds are not normally done after the first trimester, we may not find out what kind of baby is in the oven until she comes to the States in the fall...I told my daughter that I would have a baby kilt ready for her to take back to Scotland. So we're having a half 'Merican, half Scot baby!! Just wish we could get the visa/green card thing accomplished for my son-in-law. It has been in the works since October 2005. Makes you wonder why it is such a struggle to go through all the bureaucracy of coming to live here legally...but, Im not going there! So there I was kilted with with news of the first grandbaby on the way, I am just as excited as I was when I was waiting for my daughter's birth!

What great news. Congrats Grandpa!
"A veteran, whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve, is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life." That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it." anon

Congrats on the news. As someone who emigrated to the USA and later took citizenship, I can empathize with your frustrations over immigration for your SIL. They do not make it easy for someone to get here legally. The most interesting thing I noted in all that was that they appear to still be primarily a paper based organization. Shuffling files in and out of storage and between offices can't be efficient.
