NO NO NO! This is probably the biggest NO NO to me. It just looks sloppy....but that's just an opinion
Seriously the coat is too long and you would look like you are walking around in a bath robe.
Go to the thrift store and get an inexpensive jacket and just have it shortened at least. It will still look 100X better than a long suit coat.

Most suit jackets are too long with a traditional kilt. Kilt jackets are designed to work with the belt and sporran at their normal position.
There are more standard coats that either may be altered, or are made for traditional kilts.
If you are wearing he kilt low, without a sporran, a standard jacket may not look bad, but it depends on the jacket.

I don't think it would work. A suit jacket is normally tailored to a longer length compared to a kilt jacket. I've tried on a blue blazer with a navy blue kilt at home to see whether they would make an alternative business suit to the black argyle jacket/black kilt combination which I often wear to work, but the blue blazer being intended for wear with trousers just didn't look right with a kilt.

Don't do it.
For the love of God, don't do it.

As has been said; don't do it. You should be able to find both a store selling inexpensive tweed sports coats, and a good tailor in the NYC area. Buy a tweed sports coat, and have it shortened. Remember to wear the kilt when you bring the coat to the tailor so he can mark the coat so it doesn't hang over the pleats.

The problem is that a regular suit jacket or sportcoat just is not cut correctly for wear with a kilt, they are too long and make the wearer look as if he is a child playing in his parents closet, I am sure this is not the image you wish to project, a properly made kilt jacket is not just shorter than a suit jacket there are subtle differences in the pattern.
If you are not comfortable with the more traditional look of the argyle jacket for example there are more modern choices available these days, if you look for them, if you are on a budget there is always the option of getting a coat from a thrift store and converting it for kilt wear there are many examples on this forum, look under the Do It Yourself section, and

Another option might be to forget the coat, and just buy a nice tweed waist coat. Wear it with a nice shirt and a tie. Kinda like my avatar.

I went to a uniform store here called Martin's uniforms and purchased two waiters jackets one black and one white brand new for $5.00 each that was Five Dollars each. They look great. I also own a Prince Charlie too.

I dig where you're coming from. The closest thing that I've found to a "plain" looking kilt jacket is the Wallace Jacket at Scottishkilts.net. I understand the desire for all the "trimmings" that some guys have but I prefer a plainer style...sort of the contemporary look. That's what's needed is that Navy Blazer cut to kilt length...something that you can wear to work or to a less than fully formal function.
Unfortunately, all you can do is have a regular jacket cut down or get one custom made...makes me miss the traveling Hong Kong tailor that used to come to town once a year to take orders.
