Waist suppression, literally.
Howdy,
This may be slightly off topic, but it is the beginning of my second wool kilt.
Here's a shot of my workspace, my running shoes, my last fast food dinner, and the date of my 40th birthday. They're atop a 4 meter piece of regimental weight (18 ounce) Mackenzie Seaforth from RM Noble. In a few days this roll of excellent textile will be knife pleated, and set to a 33" waist with 41" hips. I'm cutting tonight, and assembling the aprons.
My current measurements are a 37" waist with 40" hips. I'm 5'10" tall and 10-15 pounds overweight. In the last decade I was a semi pro cyclist, whitewater slalom kayaker, alpinist, and biathlete. Now I'm a reclusive coffee slurping slob.
Publilshing this constitutes throwing down the gauntlet at my own feet.
Wish me luck. Feel free to chide me too. You're a passionate bunch, and I've appreciated learning about your community in the last few weeks.
Kevin.
PS- I snagged most of the Douglas poly/wool from Fraser and Kirkbright. We're a dual clan bunch- grandmother was a Douglas, and grandfather was probably Mackenzie. Once I've finished, I'll have some sizeable leftovers for even less than $6 a yard. Stay tuned.

Good luck being a loser ! But seriously I hope it works out for you. After losing fifty pounds myself I think that people can do pretty much anything they want to if they concentrate. In a few weeks, with some good exercise and diet you'll be where you want.

Whatever you do: DONT DIET!!!!
Your idea of the last fast food meal is right on. Change your lifestyle and you will keep the weight off. I often tell my back pain patients who are overweight that it can help to monitor what you eat for several weeks by writing down everything that goes into your mouth. At the end of that time period, get a calorie counting book and figure out you average daily intake. Most books then advise you to trim that amount by 20-30% and the weight will come off. Sometimes it's as simple as jettisoning all sodas or stop snacking etc. Also, anything you eat about 4-5 hours before bedtime WILL turn to fat.
Hope this helps

Road work is a very good answer. Running and/or hiking with a pack. Shucks, look at Andy Beecher! That boy's about a skeleton. Best of luck, o my brother---inspire us!

good luck! I did the same a while back when I bought my first kilt. I told my kiltmaker after she measured me, "I don't care what the tape reads, make it a 36!"

Best of luck to you! Please keep us posted.
I know losing weight can be hard. I lost a kilt to weight loss, but a new one is on it's way to replace it. I've lost almost 40lbs and am now down to what I feel is a comfortable weight. It feels good to have to buy new clothes because you lost weight, rather than gained.

I'll add my encouragement to that of the others.
Both myself and my getting-too-chunky beagle are starting a bit of a regimen of walking and running. My brother (who's judgement I trust in these matters) informs me that the best way to trim down this extra tummy that I've acquired over the years. One of my buddies told me that one of the best ways to get started is to set out to walk for twenty minutes and run for one minute in the middle of the walk...and every couple of days add one more minute of running into the walk until you're able to run for the full twenty minutes...then start worrying about distance. Sounds like a plan to me.
So we'll all be posting our successes (?) as encouragement to each other?
Best
