Thank you all for the replies. There are no sept or clan matches and it was only from a local Scottish festival one year that we found a connnection to Angus.
We have looked at the Sportkilt site, but me being a stickler for detail, wanted to find the most appropriate pattern for his hertiage. That overrides the "girly" part of just wanting to find the neatest looking pattern

Nothing wrong with the Angus district tartan. It's available from any reputable kilt maker and if his family is from the region has a good connection to his heritage.

If you are a stickler for detail, a Sportkilt is NOT for you.
