Those are great shoes! Just something you more expect to see with a 1940s suit than a kilt. What he needs is a kilt jacket, but then so do I!

I have seen the criticisms that some have posted rergarding this young man's attire, but lets remember that he is 13yrs old. I think all things considered he looks good, yes its not a Prince Charlie or even an Argyle, and he could do with some kilt hose, but how many of us were wearing kilts at age 13? I was but only because I was learning the bagpipes. Lets cut the lad a wee bit o' slack it seems nobody else is.

I think he looks great. I applaud him for his courage and fortitude at 13 years of age.

I remember how excited I was to go to the old Delco Scottish Games with my Grandfather when I was 13 and wearing my second hand kilt down past my knees with black soccer socks and ribbons for flash. I don't think I looked any better, probably a lot worse as I remember insisting on buying a pair of spats and wearing them sure that I was dapper as could be!

I hope that he continues to explore his roots, and perhaps even become a member of this forum someday. He seems to have a good head on his shoulders.

Hmmmm , does anyone notice something missing here? Where is the outrage and threats of law suits from the ACLU? I mean they are quick to jump on the band wagon when it involves other cultures! Why not protect the civil liberties of those that wear a kilt about their legs! Especially a young man who takes such pride in his heritage!
I guess this just goes to show you that just because some have "Dr." in front of their names , doesnt mean that they are the brightest bulb in the chandelier! Amazing what a hundred thousand dollars will buy you these days. To bad it isn't common sense. The intelligence side of the equation is also debatable. Take a good look at what is teaching our children people! Thank goodness for private schools!

I think it has been pointed out in numerous replies in this thread that had he been expressing the cultural identity of any other group, he surely would have strolled right into the prom and enjoyed his evening - The administrators would not even have thought twice.

    I sent her this yesterday:

    Dear Dr. Ballentine:

I am curious to know how it is that you, a presumably well educated rational person, have come to the conclusion that a kilt is "inappropriate" attire for a young man of Scots descent? Might it be that you have let a degree of cultural bigotry creep into your otherwise liberal worldview? Whatever the reason, Dr. Ballentine, your decision was discriminatory, ill advised, and probably illegal under several State and Federal laws. "Inappropriate"? Please. That cry, trotted out whenever a real reason can not be found, has been so overused as to be meaningless. It is nothing more than the refuge of those who either cannot or prefer not to let their actual motives me known.

Dr. Ballentine, you owe Miles Johnson a apology.

Had they stopped him, there would have been TV coverage, boycotts, demonstrations at the school, and definitely ACLU representation.

Stick to the topic. Why are we attacking the ACLU? It's unfair that you are blasting the organization, and we must remember to keep this forum to kilts.

    warning shot...

This is your warning shot, gents. Please do not post any more "political" comments about the ACLU, etc., or we will have to lock the thread and send it in the penalty box.

Please see the forum rules/FAQ page, or PM a Mod, and we will be happy to respond to your questions.

    Regards,

    Todd
