Perhaps ChattenCat was reffering to the material of choice for a suit kilt. In which case I tend to agree.
I was referring to the traditional kilts. I just finished pressing my next kilt and it is a wonderful material to press. The pleats are knife edge, I think because I put my full weight into the press (220 lbs). I like watching the pleats and folds go from a rounded radius to a sharp corner from pressing... Does anyone know if poly/rayon does the same thing under pressing?

I disagree. Hemp and leather also make for excellent kilts, and I am betting bamboo fabric will make for an awesome tropical weather kilt.
Dreadbelly, Hemp and leather I have not had the pleasure of working with to make kilts. I prefer the traditional kilt and tartans. Have you seen hemp woven into a tartan?
As far a bamboo, sorry but I can only picture a bamboo basket, guess it would be cool in the summer though. Is it woven? Can you post some pictures of the material?

The only bamboo fabric that I have seen was very soft and lightweight (read shirt weight). It is supposed to be a quickly renewable fiber. I also saw at the same time a cotton seaweed fabric that was so soft and light it was like heaven. Also the seaweed fabric was very expensive at $30 per yard.
Tough misfortune, bummer. At least you've a plan for bouncing back and not getting bogged down in burden for having a failure pop up. Now, a new course for a success.
