If you dont want to make any noise while practicing there's always the possibility of buying an electronic chanter. Bother Fagerstrom and Deger make excellent models that are quite sensitive to crossing noises and false fingerings.

I'll agree with most everyone else here, and add that I pay $15 for a one hour lesson here (W. Texas/SE New Mexico.)

the little tme i got to spend with an instructor he charged me $15.. and as he put it " wouldnt cahrge you anything, but this puts a dollar ammount to the time we spend together, and will make you practice more!"

you HAVE to be able to " mesh " with the teacher if you dont get along at all then you wont want to learn

now him yelling at you cause you didnt practice the g d e gracenotes like you were supposed to dosent count as you not getting along....you deserve the berating you get !!!

as far as the pc goes....I put my 6 mo. old to sleep by practicing.....the sooner you get them used to it ....the longer you can practice at night!!

how loud it is depends on the reed , and what chanter you use it in.
I have 2 PC's 1 is LOUD, and the other is quiet enough I could ( feesably) play it inbed while the missus is sleeping

also check out bobdunsire.com for piping advice, help info and stories..it helped me, and its how i met piobear....he taught me a few things while I was down in FL.

and hopefully one day I will get to jam with him again!
Irish diplomacy: is telling a man to go to he)) in such a way that he looks forward to the trip!
