Kilt at Fort Fredrick

While doing research on the C&O Canal for a bike ride, found this photo of a Highland Soldier at Fort Frederick.

He is from the Revolutionary War period (that's the "American War for Independence", as it's otherwise known)....

If you look closely, you can see what appears to be the roll of the top half of a great kilt on the right side under the jacket. I guess he just has it rolled over and tucked into the belt.
