Agreed. The more kilts out there the better.

This makes me wonder just how much more popular are cavas Utilikilt style kilts than traditional tartan kilts.

I will say that I have seen more Utilikilts in the non-highland games/renaissance world, than trad or trad-like kilts.
outside of scottish pubs that is.
but given how great the stillwater I got feels, I am going to start tipping the balance the other way . . .

That is an interesting question. Do we have a UK representative here on the board who can possibly shed some light on this?
There are 10 kinds of people in the world...
Those that understand binary, and those that don't.

Not a rep for UK, but...
At one point I did the math and figured that UK was selling over 12,000 kilts a year. Add to that the other 10-12 non traditional kilt makers, and I would suspect that non traditionals are curently outselling traditional kilts. Mostly I suspect it is a price thing followed by the perception that they can be worn in more situations (I know you can wear a tank anywear, but it honestly never would have occured to me had I not been wearing UK's everywhere first, and had forums like this board - and I did have a tank before my first UK).

The other day I was in the grocery store wearing my SWK Hunting Mcleod and was approached by a gentleman who asked me "Is that one of those Utilikits?".
Needless to say I quickly explained the difference.
Cheers

In a true mark of synchronicity, this happened to me today. I'd gone by Best Buy to pick up a video game for my ailing Monster Number One (eldest daughter, otherwise phrased) and the check out guy asked, "Is that a Utilikilt?"
I was wearing a blue Ramsay USAK Semi-trad, and gave out Rocky's website and this place here.
How odd, eh?

Not a UK rep...
I volunteered at the UK booth at GMHG '05 and on Friday alone we sold over 50. Most were to non-kilted attendees, but more than a few went to kilted folks who wanted something less formal-looking or cooler in the hot NC summer.
In my UK, smart-alecks (& the curious) ask my clan. There really isn't a good answer for that. One gent was confused by the Utilla clan.
Hopefully, in three weeks I'll have my USAK. Woo-hoo!!! Then I can answer "U.S. Army!"
