Greater Greenville Scottish Games and Highland Festival

    Saturday there were pipes

    and more pipes

    Here they come again!

Albannach headlined at the music tent, in temperatures of 96F with not a cloud
in sight! I hope the Glaswegians all survived; some of the natives were suffering!

This is only the second year for this festival, and it seems to be very well organized. I recommend it, but as someone said last week: bring sunblock and fluids.

I'll wager you didn't see Jacquie out in the sun, any more than was absolutely necessary.

Thanks for sharing those photos. I stayed so busy during the Games that I really didn't have a chance to go around and see much outside of the Museum tent.

It was good seeing some familiar faces from the board. That's David Pope standing to the left of me in the photo (to my right), in the Ulster tartan, and then on the end is Ronan MacGregor who works with me at the museum, wearing the Black MacGregor tartan.

We got on the field at 7:30am to open our tent, and didn't leave until close to 7pm Saturday night. It was a very long and hot day, and boy was I tired at the end. But we met with a lot of great people, were able to give out lots of museum brochures (a lot of folks down there didn't know about us yet -- we'll change that!), and help a lot of people find their tartan, some of whom ordered kilts!

All in all a very successful weekend! Now I just have to recoup before our Taste of Scotland festival in Franklin this coming Saturday!

Great pics, Fluter! Thanks! The friend, wearing the NYC Commemorative tartan, is Marc Sifuentes, my weightlifting and highland games partner. He claims the distinction of being the only Spanish highland heavy athlete on the east coast.

Greenville, in its infancy, is quickly becoming a really great festival and games - everything was top of the line this year, and there had to be at least 25,000 in attendance. The organizers deserve a lot of credit for putting a festival and games of this calibre together. The only bad thing is that there is so much to see and do that it's too short. Maybe in future years they could expand it into a Friday - Sunday event.

Grant - I got to hang out with Corey and Stuart for a bit and they were holding up okay in the heat. But dang, it was hot! One of them made the comment that I've been out of Canada too long when it was that hot and I wasn't sweating...the secret was my proximity to the beer tent. The guys put on an awesome show, as always. But yeah, Turpin, they closed their set, took a breather and packed up while Albannach did their set. By the end of the Albannach set they were already on the road to Blairsville.

Thanks for the great pics, Fluter - it was really nice to meet you, David Pope and SteepleChase and to see the other folks again!

**EDIT - Bill (Tartan Hiker) is between Joe (JBfromBS) and me and he's wearing his Carolina tartan, as well. It was great to see three different incarnations of the Carolina tartan!**

Great photos Fluter! It was great meeting you and Barclay. Also, it was nice seeing Matt and Marie again. That was all that I got to meet, although I could see the terrific group during the photo session. Marie and I were too busy at admissions for me to join the group. Perhaps next year!

It was a good time, for sure. Yes, I finally found my stray son, and for the first time I got to watch Albannach for an entire set. Even the old coots like me were bouncing!

Did anyone else see the guy in lederhosen? I spotted him from the window of the shuttle on our way back to the parking lot...I wonder what that was all about???
