I found some cedar "pants hangers" that were longer than usual on clearance at The Great Indoors in Denver on my move to SF. I only paid $2 and change per hanger. I can't tell you how long they are, but I'm a big guy and they hold up my kilts pretty well.

The Great Indoors is owned by Sears, if memory serves, so if you have a Sears or Sears Grand around you, you might see if they have any on clearance.

I sell these (35cm long), but P&P will be horrific since they're pretty heavy.

I got some of these also. I think I got them at Bed, Bath, and Beyond. Or some other kind of upscale gadgetry store!

Having a Setwell pants hanger, I ordered 16 kilt hangers (not as optimistic as you might think, actually). They arrived Saturday and are FABULOUS!! MUCH stronger than those from BBB etc., and the older style of SWK hangers. With my 36" waist I can generally get them between the buckles but if not they grab the waistband well just above the buckles and hold, hold, hold. They don't have felt, but grooves in the wood. I an very please with them.

I believe Jerry has dumped his old ones at SWK (actually I think he has been sending them out free with kilts) and gets his from Setco. The company only has a basic website for contact info. I had to call to get the total and send a check. $3 each plus shipping. Well worth it. I'd post a pic of my newly organized Kollection, but the wife took my camera to Ireland yesterday. What was she thinking?!

The Setwell hangers made by Setco are great, I have a couple of them for my two kilts. They work very well even on a 16 oz 9 yard tank. They will sell you whatever quanity of hangers you need. The shipping cost about equals the cost of a couple hangers, but they are well worth the money.

I have found that you can get free hangers by visiting ladies clothing stores in the mall. I have used these in the shop for almost two years now and find they do the job quite well.

They are the hangers skirts and pants are on at the store and when an item is sold they are thrown away.
The quality is not the greatest but for the price you can't beat it.

They will not span all the thicknesses of a kilt hung as you would wear it so I came up with a way of folding the kilt so the hanger only needs to grasp two layers of kilt.

Using two free hangers I have found the kilt is supported very nicely and the pleats and aprons are allowed to hang wrinkle free.

Give it a try. It won't cost anything to try.

I just got their 6 pack of kilt hangers for $13.00 and I like the way they hang my kilts.

I have several different kilts including a custom made and they all hang properly on the SWK hangers.

I'm not a fan of the spring-loaded clip hangers, I prefer the long slat of wood clamped on either side. These are the best I've found - 15½ inches long & felt-lined on the inside & only $8, too. Grips your kilt firmly & evenly & is long enough so that you kilt won't be drooping down on either side.

I'm using this method (but I bought my hangers) and it works great. I needed mine in a hurry, so I ended up buying them, but I'm going to be keeping my eyes open for freebies for my next kilt. Thanks Wiz for this great suggestion!
