Also, can anyone recommend a dry-cleaner in the north-Georgia / Atlanta area that one could trust with their kilt. Mine was given to me by 40 of my closest friends last year, would hate to have it ruined.
    Thanks.

Yeah, first time I wore mine out in public, I thought I was going to beat somebody down because, "why are you wearing a skirt?" kept popping up and people kept laughing at me but I just ignored them. Most of these people were my friends but it did make me a little angry.

    Welcome from Conyers, GA.

As to the dry cleaners--I'd probably have to have the cleaner's oldest male child as a hostage before I would entrust a fine kilt to him. YOu'd need to baste the pleats first, and then pray that they didn't screw up the creases while pressing.

I wash everything myself--by hand. And I would never trust anyone else with an iron anywhere near my kilts. Water won't hurt the wool, but dry cleaning fluid might!

This is a very touchy subject, so be careful. Spot cleaning is the ticket for small spots, and you only want to actually clean the whole thing when absolutely necessary.

Here's a really good site with a nice discussion of the whole question:

While I've never resorted to a garden hose, a good flooding with a soft shower nozzle might do wonders.

    Good luck.
