I recently received a Fedex invoice for taxes on the delivery of a SportKilt (to Canada). This had around C$35 of Fedex processing fees and costs added on top of the taxes, making it a significantly more expensive purchase.

I phoned Fedex to complain about the size of this charge, citing that Canada Post charge only C$5 for the same processing. The Fedex agent reduced the fee to around C$5. So it might be worth challenging the processing fee.

I agree on challenging the processing fee and the 4% tariff difference. They need to do their part right. Plus, on their invoice, it states the proper tariff code and the shipper had the proper tariff code, only the actual "agent" screwed things up. Just out of pure stubbornness, I am going to challenge these charges...so there!

    Update:

I submitted my contestation (is that a word?) of the erroneous tariff charges and everything went....silent.

So, I cheerfully called FedEx. They told me that the feds may not get back to them (and me) for MONTHS!!!!!!! Just my luck, some clerk somewhere makes a mistake in 2.5 seconds and it will now take months to fix. BUT I will save my 4%.....so there!

Fedex actually sent me a bill and no way to pay it. The people here couldn't take the money. There was nothing online. I made a couple of phone calls and gave up, They then sent me a couple of nasty notices. I phoned their legal centre and told them to "get off the pot, there was no mechanism to pay them!" I closed telling them that my time in all these call and trips was worth more than the bill so I'm considering it paid. Never heard from them again.

    yeah, challenge them.

    Good luck.

They sent me a bill for their "so-called" services when I received an order from the Kilt Store. I ignored it and called Kilt Store and stated that I felt they were the ones responsible since I had specifically requested the Royal Mail when I placed my order and that it was their staff who sent it via FedEx instead. Never heard anything else from FedEx and all my other orders from KiltStore have always been absolutely correct and shipped by the Royal Mail.

THEY LOWERED my cost and corrected the tariff! I almost fell off my chair. Yay for perseverance, yay for fighting the man, boo for still having to fork over some extra cash (but now it's only $67 instead of $80...Hah!)
