Wow, thanks for sharing a wonderful day with us!
"A veteran, whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve, is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life." That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it." anon

Very nice. Looks like quite the day and I'll agree with Alex - kilts, cabers, bagpipes, BBQ and model trains.

Mix liberaly with good weather, ale & whisky and you've got an excellent recipe.

    Jamie et al,

You fellows certainly know how to enjoy yourselves. Thanks for allowing the rest of us to share, in some small way, the atmosphere of your day (and evening).

Our Harpenden Highland Gathering takes place in just under three weeks - please keep everything crossed for us to have some decent weather - so far, we seem to be having the wettest and, as far as I personally am concerned, the coolest Summer for years (I resorted to putting the central heating on again a couple of evenings ago!!). Also, this time next year, it'll be the Storrington 'do', and we do NOT want this sort of weather then!!!

Well, TimC and I stunk up the field on Saturday, but aside from that.....

well, I *DID* get two good picks on the caber, got about an 80-degree on it once, and I turned the "qualifying caber"....but everything else stank..

...it was a wonderful day. the proclamation of friendship was a winner, and I'm glad to see that the MacNaughton tent was hopping, again. I got to actually say Hi to Thomsec for more than thirty seconds this time and see his other X-Kilt and I have to say...Mate, those are FINE jobs on those X-Kilts...especially the one you had on, on Saturday.

One of the little advantages of throwing in the Athletics is that it keeps you busy all day, so you don't go spend $$$ in the vendors tents!

The barbeque was a smashing success, and Panache's train is uber cool! There are pipers and drummer on one of the streets. Honest!

    A few more pics...

Most had to walk all day... but one hitched a ride in between hauling setup gear.

It's always good for an athlete to have his own, personal cheering section. Here is Alan's wife, the Luminous Joan, and TimC's new bride, the Glamorous Damaris. Oh... and Captainjak, too, in his Nightstalker kilt. (You see? Alan H's X-kilt for Captainjak was like a "gateway drug", leading to more hard-core kilts.)

Quite a rabble assembled for the procession to be piped into the clan area to present the Proclamation of Friendship to Clan MacNaughtan.

I don't have the text to the Proclamation - you'll just have to decipher the flowery font yourself.

One of OUR athletes AWOL from the field Ah well, what can you expect from newly-weds?

"Listen Men.... You are no longer bound down to the unmanly dress of the Lowlander." 1782 Repeal.

Did I spy Panache wearing bib overalls in one of those pics or were my eyes deceiving me? Check the first pic in the 8th post. Looks like a grand get together. Once again, the ladies out shine the men.

    Tony
