Argyle Knicker Socks - Use for Kilts?
Has anyone tried using golf knicker socks (knee-length, argyle) with their kilt? I wonder if it could be a lower cost alternative to custom made kilt hose?

As long as they are long enough to give you a thick beefy cuff at the top, they could serve it would seem. I'd imagine though the gents with larger calves would have difficulty with them though. Standard socks sizes just do not account for us lads with Clydesdale calves.

I gave up on the thick, beefy cuff long ago. These days I'm just happy to find something that comes to my knee and rolls once, let alone more than once. Low expectations, I know. It comes from long feet, Clydesdale calves, and long lower legs (shins?).
I'll resort to the custom hose one of these days. I just haven't found the time to do all the measurements so that the hose fit correctly.

Yeah,
I was wandering about this too. I suggested it, I think the same web link in an old tartan hose thread. Not sure where it is and really don't feel like looking for it.. Glad to see others are wondering about the same things....

I sometimes wear British Navy sea boot socks, which are the right length a good colour and really thick and tight knit. They are great for really cold weather, though people with big calves may have problems with them as well.

You're scaring me.
Unless you're Harry Lauder or wearing a bearskin, I don't think it will work. If anybody has worn these kinds of socks, please post.
I'm not an authority and I'm open to having a look.
General sock rules: dark colours to minimize bulk; light colours to add bulk; patterns to scare small children.

The intent is to get cheaper "tartan hose"
(which, themselves, are imitations of cadadh.)
